¶ De Bazel maakte de houtsneden tussen 1894 en 1903. De eerste 23 bladen verschenen tussen 1894 en 1895 in het tijdschrift 'Licht en Waarheid'. De overige betreffen vnl. Amsterdamse en bouwkundige onderwerpen, en vignetten voor eigen gebruik.
De inleiding door J.L.M. Lauweriks ligt in facsimile bij. Deze uitgave in losse kwarto-formaat bladen - is gelegd in een moderne linnen bestempelde cassette (met decoratief dekblad op binnenzijde voorplat).

Manuscript in a fine hand, (size of the pages The first part discusses the possiblities and requirements of fortification in uneven terrain, 18 pages. With 4 black/white illustrations and 1 full-page coloured ground-plan of a fortified city. 18 pages.. The second part, starting from the other side of the book, first discusses the traditional Dutch fortification theory, referring to Stevin etc.; and continues with exemples from the theory of Jacques Ozanam, Bombelle, and "Monsieur le Chevalier de St.Julien'. In this last exemple Falck discusses the pros and contras of "open" versus fortified cities, and mentions that he has resided in the city of Metz for a year. 24 pages. With 3 b/w illustrations and 3 full-page coloured ground-plans. With 70 blank pages between the two treatises. In a later russian half-leather binding. (the page border lines, drawn in ink, damaged by ink corrosion, are repaired).
A very fine manuscript treatise on fortification, written and drawn in Utrecht, between 26 January and 5 March 1752. Otto Willem Falck was at that time cadet in the Engineer Corps. With much self-esteem he introduces this work with a definition of his profession: "Ingenieur est un mathematicien habile, expert, et hardi, qui scait l'art de l'architecture militaire, qui va reconnoître la place qu'on veut ataquer; et marque au General ou au Lieutenant General l'endorit le plus foible (etc.) Un ingenieur habile, brave, et experimenté est fort necessaire."

¶ In 1884 werd de eerste ronde van de prijsvraag voor een nieuw beursgebouw in Amsterdam gehouden... Verschillende Amsterdammers waren onder de indruk van de nieuwe Parijsche boulevards, en de straten van steden als Leipzig en Berlijn. Zij wilden de Beursbouw combineren met de aanleg van een brede Stationsboulevard vanaf het in aanbouw zijnde Centraal Station naar de Dam... Aan dit alles lag een flinke dosis eigenbelang ten grondslag van die personen, die bij de aanleg van zo'n brede boulevard hun grond in waarde zouden zien stijgen... Een van de meest volhardende particulieren was W. P. Werker, eigenaar van het Bible Hotel aan het Damrak... Werker werd gesteund door A. W. de Flines, firmant van Blikman & Sartorius. Hij richtte van 1887 tot 1896 verschillende adressen aan de raad, waar in hij pleitte voor een Beurs aan het Damrak, dat hij geheel wilde doen dempen en transformeren in een brede boulevard met plantsoenen en fonteinen in het midden (G. Een van de meest volhardende particulieren was W. P. Werker, eigenaar van het Bible Hotel aan het Damrak... Werker werd gesteund door A. W. de Flines, firmant van Blikman & Sartorius. Hij richtte van 1887 tot 1896 verschillende adressen aan de raad, waar in hij pleitte voor een Beurs aan het Damrak, dat hij geheel wilde doen dempen en transformeren in een brede boulevard met plantsoenen en fonteinen in het midden (G.
