- The series are not bound in order, but the entire course (serie 1-10, with 52 samples or modèles in total) is present. This new approach to children's education combined lessons in cursive writing with courses on a wide variety of subjects: from the sciences to fine arts, to geography and travel, history, and the domestic sciences (eg. bookkeeping)
¶ the illustrations are by/after 'the best artists of our time': a.o. François-Hippolyte Lalaisse (professor at the École polytechnique from 1839-77); an Émile Lejeune, C. Lalaisse, Louis [Louise?] Pannier; Chaillot; Millin; Millet (voir aussi: Les collections du Musée national de l'Éducation: 26 feuillets pliés). Most calligraphic samples are engraved by Gouget, Warin and Picquet

Morin (Prosper-Henri), chef d'institution, demeurant à Paris, [..], auquel il a été délivré, le certificat de sa demande d'un brevet d'invention de cinq ans, pour une méthode dite polytechnographie, propre à enseigner simultanément, au moyen d'exemples composées d'une manière spéciale, le dessin, l'écriture, la rédaction, l'histoire, les sciences, etc." (Bulletin des lois de la Republique Francaise, 1837, p. 394). ¶ "le nouveau mode d'enseignement élémentair professionnel et productif que nous nous empressons de porter à la connaissance de toutes les familles, dont il mérite au plus haut degré l'attention et l'interét. Ce mode ingénieux, simple et économique, auquel a été donné le nom de Polytechnographie, consiste, par une heureuse union des sciences et des arts, à faire suivre à l'enfant en même temps qu'il acquiert de bonne heure l'habitude d'une écriture régulière et pure, un cours gradué d'études variées. [..] C'est sans aucune espèce d'exagération, dans les termes que nous exprimons, la conviction dans laquelle nous sommes que l'adaption de nos modèles au sein des familles, des écoles primaires, des maisons d'éducation et des colléges, sera le plus importante réforme et le plus utile progrès que puissent recevoir l'enseignement: Ce nouveau mode a trois avantages capitaux qui le recommandent: 1. il réduit à une surveillance facile l'éducation maternelle et familière; 2. Il améliore et complète l'instruction primaire des écoles communales; 3. Enfin, il assure à l'instruction classique un moyen d'être en même tems utile et productive." ¶ "Richter & Co was established in 1842 by a Swiss printer, to produce chromolithographs in Naples. After the unification of Italy, Richter became a supplier to the royal household, specializing in several fields including the printing of bank notes.Towards the end of the 19th century, the company was printing promotional items for commercial ventures, some of their clients included hotels. Borgoni, the company's artisitic director was in charge of the graphic images of hotels in Italy and their success there allowed them to expand onto Europe, North Africa and the Middle East where they began selling labels of their desings to important hotels there. Particularly noteworthy is his Liberty style which remained prominent until the rise of Art Deco." (British Museum).
